LA Cuparsita

La Cupasita appearance de carnaval formada por la Federación de Estudiantes del UruguayLa Cuparsita It was created by the architecture student Gerardo Matos Rodriguez towards the end of 1915 as a march for the Carnival parade (appearance) of the Federación de Estudiantes del Uruguay.

It was presented in 1916, to draw a tango, Roberto Firpo who after having made several changes among which additions of old tangos without success and even calls to the "Miserere" of Giuseppe Verdi, proposed to sign it together as Firpo-Matos But the proposal was rejected and the song was recorded under the name of Gerardo Matos Rodriguez thanks to a collection of his student friends.

Until 1924, the Cuparsita was an instrumental tango completely ignored due to the great success of the Tango-Canciónera, for which it was not performed by the orchestras of that time.
Matos, on the other hand, although the author of a text accompanying the song, had sold royalties to Breyer Hnos, a subsidiary of Casa Ricordi in Argentina.

Just in 1924 was performed in the ancient Teatro Apolo, the Nterno of a cabaret program, a version of La Cuparsita with texts written by Pascual Contursi and Enrique P. Maroni, who had a great success Tango to be filmed and Sung also by others, especially by Carlos Gardel, Massimo Rioplatense exponent of the tango canción, and from here the step towards fame was really short, immortating the "Cupasita" as one of the most famous and beloved songs.

Meanwhile Matos, who came to know in Paris of the success of his song with a text written by others, filed a lawsuit to cancel the sale of royalties to Breyer Hnos and to prohibit any use of his song without the original texts written by him.

The series of lawsuits related to this track ended in 1948 when the court decreed that royalties were 80% to the heirs of Matos and 20% to the heirs of Contursi-Maroni and that anyone wishing to use the song could have done so Only with one of the two texts, prohibiting the use of any other.
In fact in time other texts had been added, written by others, but the court ruled that the original music of Matos could be played exclusively or instrumental or with one of the two texts, one of Matos and the other of Contursi-Maroni.

La Cuparsa
De miserias sin fin desfila
In the back of the
Que pronto has de die de Pena,
To be on Lecho
Solloza Acongojado
Record
This is the Hace padecer.

A. A on Viejito
This is a very
Y loco de Pasión, Ciego de amor
Corrió tras de su amada
That was Linda, it was Hechicera
De Lujuria was a flor
Que burló on querer
Hasta que se cansó
Y por otro dejó.

Largo Tiempo
Después Cayó Al Hogar maternal
To take care of
Y Herido Corazón y her
Que su viejito Santa
La que él had dejado,
El Invierno Pasado
De Frío se murió.

Hoy ya only Abandonado
In the sad de su suerte
Anxious espera la muerte
Que bien pronto has de llegar.
Y entre la triste frialdad
This slow invades El Corazón
Sintió the crude Sensación
De on Maldad.

Entre Sombras
If the Oye Breathe Sufriente
In the air
Porque una dulce paz le Llega
Sintió que desde el cielo
La Madrecite Buena
Mitigating SUS Penas
SUS culpas partook.
